Bulgarian border authorities say they’ve seized one of the largest hauls of cocaine hidden in a van heading to Turkey. Officials said the 453 pounds of drugs worth $22 million were stashed in sealed bags inside suitcases. Those arrested were a Congolese diplomat accredited in Belgium, a Belgian citizen and a Bulgarian driver. Prosecutors say they face up to 20 years in prison if convicted of drug trafficking. Investigators are working with EU partners to trace the cocaine’s origins and recipients. Bulgaria, a key transit point on the Balkan drug-trafficking route, has intensified efforts to combat drug smuggling.
